Use of Decorataive Mouldings


Decorative Mouldings can be used to make even a simple room look luxurious. There is no dearth of places where you can use them – flooring, ceiling, windows and doors. It adds more character to the homes and more and more people are choosing this simple element to bring luxury, style, and elegance to the interiors. Houses that are newly constructed have simpler mouldings compared to older houses. Adding decorative mouldings is a job that you yourself can undertake without having to call in a professional to do the job.

Now there are many kinds of mouldings available to suit different purposes. These are most commonly used to hide the blemishes on wall corners, especially in corners where the wall touches the ceiling or floor and where doors and windows touch the walls. But these days they are also used for decorative and aesthetic purposes too. The baseboad moulding is used in places where the wall meets the floor. To fill the gap between the floor and ceiling they are used. The width ranges from 2 inches to 6 inches. The casing moulding is used to fill the gap between the window or door and wall. The width of these usually ranges from 1 to 6 inches. Crown moulding is used to fill the gap between the ceiling and the wall and their width range from 1 to 5 inches.  Apart from these you can also use chair rail mouldings that are mainly used to protect walls from bumpings and damages caused due to movement of chairs although these days such mouldings are used mainly for decorative purposes. There are also mouldings available for panels, fire places, and shelves.

While mouldings do offer a decorative purpose, it is wise to use them aptly. Do not choose an overly decorative moulding for a modern interior theme decor. It will not gell with them theme and will only serve to look out of place. A simple moulding here would serve the purpose. On the other hand decorative mouldings can be used in houses with elaborate retro style or traditional theme decor. So when choosing a suitable moulding, bear in mind the style of your home. Mouldings will continue to be used both for decorative and functional purposes, which is why we see a wide variety of them available in the market today. Choose one that will add the extra panache to your home and make it an elegant wholesome unit.
